First, check your program
No single test is best for every student. Your prospective institution may request an English proficiency score, an admissions aptitude test, both, or neither. Official university admission pages are your primary source.
IELTS
IELTS assesses language ability through listening, reading, writing and speaking. Check which IELTS format is appropriate for your specific university, visa pathway or professional registration requirement.
PTE Academic
PTE Academic is a computer-delivered English language assessment. Confirm its acceptance, minimum scores and test validity period with each receiving organization.
TOEFL
TOEFL measures academic English proficiency. Acceptance policies, score scales and available test formats can change, so review current official information before booking.
GRE
GRE tests verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing for certain graduate admissions. It is not interchangeable with an English proficiency test. Many graduate programs have their own GRE requirements or policies.
Create a preparation plan
Take a diagnostic test, identify weak skills, practice with timed exercises, review errors and track progress. An effective plan balances content knowledge, exam familiarity and consistent feedback.
Avoid unnecessary registrations
Before paying an exam fee, confirm the exact exam, minimum score, test center availability, reporting deadline and retake policy for your intended program.
